"Industry" Roundtable: Marketing alumni share entrepreneurial insights

On the afternoon of December 9, the round table discussion titled 'Look at My Industry' invited Zhang Han, an esteemed alumnus, to share his entrepreneurial insights with the university community. Zhang Han is a 2003 graduate from our institution with a major in marketing. He currently serves as the Chairman of Beijing Shengsheng Excellent Health Technology Co., Ltd., and also holds the position of Chairman & CEO at Qikangbao (Beijing) Health Technology Co., Ltd. Mr. Chen Libin, Ms. Yan Huan, Associate Director of Marketing Department of Business School, Ms. Dong Jiaqi, Ms. Xu Jingyi, Ms. Lu Ying, counselor, and more than 20 graduate students attended the activity. The activity was hosted by Mr. Chen Libin.

The theme of Zhang Han's presentation was 'Is it Possible to Market Without Alcohol?' He began by briefly outlining his professional journey and entrepreneurial experiences: after graduating, he spent a year working in an advertising firm before transitioning into health management, ultimately launching his own business five years later. His business philosophy emphasizes that companies should proactively serve their customers while adhering to standardized processes. Over the past decade, his company has primarily expanded its market through word-of-mouth referrals targeting corporate clients; future developments will consider direct-to-consumer strategies as well. He highlighted that finding intrinsic value within a business is crucial for effective marketing without relying on personal connections.

During the subsequent Q&A session, students eagerly posed questions to him. In response to inquiries about his preference for word-of-mouth marketing strategies, Zhang Han underscored the importance of aligning service teams with business volume needs while noting that since health management is still an emerging field, this model proves particularly suitable at present. Regarding partnerships in entrepreneurship, he asserted that compatibility between individuals values and life goals is paramount. He cautioned aspiring entrepreneurs against overthinking their decisions—emphasizing that theres no such thing as perfect timing—and encouraged them to seize market opportunities early on despite challenges like those posed by three years of pandemic-related impacts which necessitated cost-cutting measures but ultimately led to commendable performance growth.

In her closing remarks, Teacher Yan Huan remarked that Zhang Han provided everyone with a compelling lesson in marketing through real-world examples which clarified its essence: delivering valuable products to customers forms its foundation rather than merely leveraging social connections or 'wine culture,' which she described as secondary enhancements—the core competitiveness lies in building corporate value.
This event offered students invaluable insights into innovation and entrepreneurship alongside practical applications in marketing practices through engaging discussions with alumni thereby broadening their perspectives and deepening their understanding of theoretical concepts.
