Business School arranged a visit to the Capital Museum for undergraduates to explore ancient capital culture.

To enrich the cultural life of the 2023 freshmen during their eleventh week and guide them in understanding Beijing's history and culture, appreciating its unique charm, strengthening their awareness of its significance, and continuing the revolutionary legacy, Business School organized a visit for over 40 undergraduates to the Capital Museum on October 6 as part of a pilot project. This initiative is part of our 'Know Beijing and Love the Capital' campaign, led by Zhang Qian, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee at Business School, along with Wang Linfei, counselor for 2023.

This year marks Beijing’s 870th anniversary; thus, students primarily explored a special exhibition titled 'Brilliant Axis,' launched by Capital Museum to commemorate this milestone. The exhibition consists of three sections: Magnificent Central Axis, Cultural Central Axis, and Eternal Central Axis. It begins with Qu Yuan's 'Tian Wen,' narrating historical origins related to this central axis.

The 'Magnificent Axis' section immerses visitors in an experiential space that highlights its origins. The central axis represents a system through which we can understand how Chinese people express political ideologies and cultural symbols through urban planning. A combination of physical sand tables and digital displays showcases an impressive order within Beijing’s distinctive central axis.

The 'Cultural Axis' segment interprets historical processes alongside aesthetics and architectural techniques involved in forming Beijing's central axis through various displayed relics—illustrating diverse connotations across different eras.

'Eternal Axis' signifies that Beijing’s central axis has become shared heritage recognized nationally and globally. This section offers immersive experiences using digital technology; some students created lasting memories in an exclusive area called ‘My Story with The Axis.’

Additionally, students visited other exhibitions such as Yandi Bronze Art Exhibition and Ancient Buddha Relics Exhibition to gain insights into various aspects surrounding Beijing’s history while understanding its role in integrating ancient ethnic groups alongside facilitating cultural exchanges—showcasing characteristics emblematic of multicultural coexistence found within Beijing.

Organizing this activity serves as practical exploration within ideological education at Business School—a vivid embodiment akin to ‘walking ideological lessons.’ Students gained multifaceted perspectives regarding both history surrounding Beijing as well as culture tied intricately around its central axis; they developed nuanced understandings about our capital city beyond merely perceiving it politically or culturally centered—it allowed deeper appreciation towards rich legacies embedded throughout time! Through engaging activities like visiting ‘Brilliant Axis’ exhibit proved beneficial—not only did they uncover centuries-old narratives linked directly back towards said axes but also felt firsthand allure stemming from historicity deeply rooted inside vibrant metropolis known simply yet profoundly called “Beijing.” Ultimately broadening horizons whilst enhancing knowledge instilled greater confidence amongst these future leaders who will contribute positively toward ongoing development efforts aimed at enriching lives here amidst bustling capital.
