The third session of "High-quality Education Teaching Action Plan Lecture Series" of Business School was successfully carried out

On the afternoon of November 29, 2023, the third session of the 'High-Quality Education Teaching Action Plan Lecture Series' at Business School was successfully conducted in conference room 1215A of the Comprehensive Building. Professor Zhan Jing, a doctoral supervisor from the School of Labor Economics at Capital University of Economics and Business, was invited to deliver a lecture titled 'The Coordination of What to Say and How to Say It' for the faculty members of the Business School. Professor He Yurun, Dean of Business School, attended and extended a warm welcome to Professor Zhan on behalf of the institution. The lecture was moderated by Associate Professor Qiu Yong, Director of Human Resource Management.

Professor Zhan Jing serves as Executive Director for both the Labor Relations Branch within China Human Resource Development Research Society and China Labor Economics Association. She has received multiple accolades including Excellent Teaching Effect Award, Excellent Lecturer Award, and Teaching Rookie Award from Capital University of Economics and Business. In 2019, she was recognized as one of Beijing's Third Famous Young Teachers in Higher Education. Her extensive teaching experience encompasses various courses such as 'Labor Relations', 'Labor Relations Management Cases and Experiences', 'Research Methods in Labor Relations', and 'Frontier Issues in Labor Relations'.
During her lecture, Professor Zhan first shared her personal experiences along with pedagogical insights that provoked reflections on both what content should be delivered ('what to say') and how it should be presented ('how to say it'). Regarding content selection ('what to talk about'), she emphasized that university educators must excel in scientific research since their research capabilities significantly influence students’ comprehension during lectures. Subsequently, using classroom instruction on Labor Relations as an illustrative case study, she highlighted how contemporary educational trends have transformed knowledge sources and student interests over time due to increasing competition among institutions. To genuinely engage students’ interest during classes, presenting cutting-edge research alongside relevant case studies is essential for enriching course material.
In addressing presentation techniques ('how to talk'), Professor Zhan initially underscored comprehensive preparation—both material-wise and mentally—prior to class sessions while stressing teachers' presence during lectures. She shared three enduring practices: real-time updates on materials used; reviewing recorded lessons; adjusting physical demeanor throughout teaching engagements. Furthermore, underlining her commitment towards excellence in every class session led her into discussing diverse instructional methods while focusing on key concepts alongside monitoring student engagement levels. In exploring ‘One Course One Relationship’, she elaborated upon three critical dimensions: hypothesis formulation; respect for students; fostering genuine affection towards them—all necessitating thorough lesson preparations prior-to-class interactions aimed at integrating students fully into learning processes while valuing their inquiries through active discussions post-class hours.
At conclusion’s end point within this engaging discourse filled with depth yet accessibility—a vibrant interaction ensued between herself & attending faculty which proved beneficial across all participants involved! Following this insightful sharing segment Mr. Qiu Yong synthesized key takeaways whilst reflecting personally leading into stimulating dialogue amongst attendees.
