Academic Paper Published by Associate Professor Zheng Yaomin's Team in a Nature-affiliated Journal

On January 3, 2024, a research team led by Associate Professor Zheng Yaomin from our institution published an academic paper titled "Global conservation priorities for wetlands and setting post-2025 targets" in the journal Communications Earth & Environment, a Nature-affiliated publication. The paper presents a cost-effective wetland conservation assessment model that integrates indicators of wetland conservation value and human impact to identify key areas for global wetland protection. It also proposes target-setting schemes based on the degree of protection. This research provides a new academic perspective for the conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of global wetlands, which is significant for maintaining ecological balance and human well-being.

China is currently playing an irreplaceable role in the protection of wetlands that require priority conservation, contributing to the global wetland protection system and its expansion potential. The protection and rational use of China's wetland resources are the foundation for the country's sustainable development. Therefore, focusing on significant research topics such as beautiful wetland conservation and harmonious coexistence between humans and wetlands, protecting wetlands and constructing recreational spaces along waterfront areas have become important construction contents to promote the modernization of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.

Communications Earth & Environment is an open-access (OA) journal launched in 2020, publishing the latest significant research progress in the fields of Earth and environmental sciences, and sustainable development, bringing new insights to the industry. With a current real-time impact factor of 7.9 and ranked in Q1 by JCR, this journal has great potential for future development.
