To promote research on corporate accounting standards, raise awareness about important accounting standards projects, and attract more scholars to focus on related accounting issues, the Business School of Beijing Technology and Business University successfully held a public lecture event on April 28. The event was organized by the Enterprise Accounting Standards Professional Committee of the Chinese Accounting Association, and co-hosted by the Business School of Beijing Technology and Business University and the Beijing Technology and Business University CPA Industry Research Institute. The lecture featured Wang Pengcheng, Chairman of the Enterprise Accounting Standards Professional Committee of the Chinese Accounting Association, Professor, and Doctoral Supervisor at the Business School, who delivered a keynote speech on “Significant Improvements in Financial Statements and Related Impacts and Response Strategies—Analysis of IFRS 18 ‘Presentation and Disclosure of Financial Statements’ Standards.” The lecture was chaired by Professor He, Dean of the Business School.
On April 9, 2024, the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) officially issued IFRS 18—"Presentation and Disclosure of Financial Statements," replacing IAS 1—"Presentation of Financial Statements." This new standard represents a significant improvement in the presentation and disclosure of financial statements. Having been in development since 2001, IFRS 18 is the longest-running project in IASB's history, taking 24 years from its initial project launch to its final publication. The issuance of this standard marks an important milestone in the development of international financial reporting standards, greatly enhancing the usefulness, comparability, and transparency of financial information.
In response to this major change, Professor Wang Pengcheng analyzed the background and development process of the standard, summarized the significant improvements made in financial statement presentation and disclosure, and evaluated the impact of its implementation on stakeholders. This analysis aims to help attendees gain a deeper understanding of this important accounting standard.
In addition to the on-site participation of faculty and students, the Public Welfare Lecture was also broadcasted live online via the Xueshuo platform, reaching a national audience of students and professionals. The live broadcast garnered a total of 26,000 views, with several universities and enterprises organizing group viewings. The lecture provided valuable insights to attendees, benefiting many. The Business School has long focused on cutting-edge research and practical applications. The successful hosting of this Public Welfare Lecture further enhances the academic influence of the accounting discipline within domestic universities.
