To foster the advancement of the business administration discipline, invigorate the academic environment for doctoral students, and enhance inter-university academic collaboration and exchange, the "Doctoral Academic Forum," co-organized by Central University of Finance and Economics, University of International Business and Economics, and Beijing Technology and Business University, convened at Yulong Imperial International Hotel in Beijing on November 28, 2023. The forum featured a structured agenda including paper reviews and presentations, expert discussions, experience sharing sessions, as well as interactions between faculty members and students. Participants were divided into finance/accounting groups and management groups for dynamic discussions.
In the Finance and Accounting Forum, Liu Guoqiang, Deputy Secretary General of the Chinese Accounting Association, gave guidance on the selection of topics and exchanges, and invited Professor Zhu Jigao of the University of International Business and Economics and Professor Wang Yanchao of the Central University of Finance and Economics to give an introduction to the experience of the two universities in the construction of doctoral programmes and the cultivation of doctoral students, respectively. Xie Zhihua, former Vice President of Beijing Technology and Business University, Mao Xinshu, Dean of Graduate School of Beijing Technology and Business University, and He Yurun, Dean of Business School Beijing Technology and Business University, discussed and exchanged views on the planning and outlook of doctoral programme construction of Beijing Technology and Business University. Doctoral supervisors and doctoral students of accounting and finance disciplines in the School of Business and young teachers and doctoral students from the Central University of Finance and Economics and the University of International Business and Economics also actively participated in this meeting, and carried out enthusiastic and detailed discussions. The Finance and Accounting Forum was chaired by Zhang Chenyu, Head of the Accounting Department, and Liu Huan, Deputy Head of the Finance Department.
Liu Guoqiang elaborated on the selection process for topics submitted to *Accounting Research*, highlighting recent changes within its framework that underscore its positioning within academia. Professor Zhu Jigao shared insights regarding UIBE's doctoral program structure focusing on training systems requirements as well as outcomes achieved through these initiatives. Meanwhile, Professor Wang Yanchao discussed Central University's doctoral training system emphasizing employment quality metrics along with career trajectories post-graduation.
The forum transitioned into a paper presentation segment where Zhang Mingming (Central University) presented findings based upon “Comparative Advantage of Regional Talent Dividend & Cross-regional Capital Flow - A Perspective on Enterprise Remote Mergers & Acquisitions,” followed by Zhang Wenyu’s report titled “Enterprise Digital Transformation & Mergers/Acquisitions Behavior - Resource Acquisition Perspective.” Commentaries were provided by Wang Xizi (UIBE) alongside Zhang Yue (Central University).
In the exchange session between teachers and students, Prof Xie Zhihua talked about the suggestions for doctoral training and the prospective of the construction of doctoral programme in business administration in Beijing Technology and Business University, starting from the relationship between life and ideals and how to do valuable and thoughtful research. Professor Mao Xinshu deeply analyzed the future development direction of BBA doctoral programme and the issues that need extra attention from the perspective of discipline system.
He Yurun concluded this section affirming longstanding collaborative ties among all three universities advocating closer cooperation towards enhancing their respective doctoral programs.
In parallel Management Forum proceedings included contributions from notable figures such as former Vice President Xie Zhihua; Dean He Yurun; Editorial Director Wang Ping; Vice Dean Chen Jinliang; Dean Yang Zhenning—all addressing various aspects pertinent to effective management education delivery frameworks—facilitated under Zhao Chuan’s moderation supported further via Executive Director He Hui’s oversight.
Dean He extended warm welcomes expressing gratitude toward attending experts underscoring aspirations aimed at enriching student mentorship opportunities whilst reinforcing postdoctoral research mobility stations fostering comprehensive talent cultivation systems across disciplines involved therein.
First of all, Tian Guangdi, a doctoral student at The University of International Business and Economics, reports on "When The Boss is Abused: Employee Reaction to Observed Supervisor Being Abused and The Role of Supervisor Gender, Zhang Hongyu, director of the Department of Organization and Human Resource Management, Central University of Finance and Economics, commented on four aspects: conditional variables, theories, experimental methods and contributions. Secondly, Hao Anqi, a doctoral candidate at the University of International Business and Economics, reported on the impact of foreign direct investment on enterprise innovation behavior: Does it increase the "quantity" or improve the "quality"? Xu Zhengda, executive deputy director of the International Exchange Office of Business School Beijing Technology and Business University, affirmed the reporter's innovation, topic selection and empirical research, and discussed the research objects and methods. Finally, Wang Yuye, a doctoral candidate at Beijing Technology and Business University, reported "Research on the Double-edged sword effect of benevolent Leadership on employee happiness", and Lu Qiang, director of the Department of Logistics Management at Beijing Technology and Business University, put forward suggestions on theories and models.
Next, Wang Ping, editorial director of the journal of Scientific Research Management, put forward valuable suggestions on the topic selection and writing frontier of the paper, from the aspects of normative requirements, structural requirements, references, basic information and management norms. Then, Chen Jinliang, Deputy Dean of the Business School of Central University of Finance and Economics, Yang Zhenning, Director of the Department of Technical Economics and Management of the International Business School of the University of International Business and Economics, and Shi Jinlian, Business School of Beijing Technology and Business University, each shared their experiences in the construction of doctoral programs and the training of doctoral students. Finally, the doctoral supervisors discussed the construction of doctoral programs and the training of doctoral students, providing guidance for the future planning, research confusion and research expectations of doctoral students.
Former Vice president Xie Zhihua emphasized that doctoral students should pay attention to personality quality, and have their own value judgment and spiritual home in the era of internal volume. He Yurun, dean of Business School Beijing Technology and Business University, concluded that in order to enhance the movement of teachers and doctoral students in the three schools, emphasizing the importance of communication between teachers and students, the best way to beat the internal exam is to surpass oneself on the track of their own choice rather than compare with others. This conference promoted the further cooperation in the construction of the doctoral program of the three universities and contributed to the continuous improvement of the doctoral training program.
