To effectively implement the deployment of the 119 Fire Awareness Month activities, with a strong emphasis on the theme "Attention to fire, life first," and prioritizing "the popularization of fire safety knowledge and enhancement of fire safety awareness," Business School encourages students to actively engage in the fire safety education and emergency drill activities organized by the school in the East district of Fucheng Road from October 25 to 27 and November 8. The objective is to elevate students' awareness regarding firefighting while enhancing their capabilities in organizing and managing firefighting efforts.
During the firefighting training, students attentively listened to explanations provided by security department instructors, gaining an understanding that using a fire extinguisher involves four key steps: lifting, pulling, holding, and pressing. Additionally, they were instructed to consider wind direction, control extinguishing distance, and aim at the base of flames. Following this instruction, students participated in practical exercises with fire extinguishers to solidify their skills.
In evacuation drills following received instructions for fire evacuation procedures, Business School students promptly covered their mouths and noses with wet towels while adopting a low posture. They carefully adhered to fundamental escape steps and precautions as they efficiently evacuated from dormitories into designated safe areas in an orderly manner. Throughout these exercises, there was clear division of labor among participants along with effective collaboration.
During school-organized fire carnival activities, Business School students actively engaged in learning various emergency response techniques such as rope rescue methods and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as explained by firefighters. Students learned that during sudden fires they must utilize available resources around them—such as sheets or curtains—to ensure personal safety. Furthermore, mastering proper CPR techniques alongside correct usage of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) is crucial for improving survival rates during cardiac arrest situations.
As stated in "Zuo Zhuan": “In peace lies danger; preparation leads away from trouble.” Through conducting this comprehensive fire safety education program we have significantly enhanced student awareness regarding both self-rescue strategies as well as mutual assistance practices; improved coordination abilities when responding to emergencies; established a robust foundation for constructing effective 'firewalls' against hazards; guided students towards deeper engagement through direct contact with real-life scenarios involving fires; ultimately contributing toward fostering a campus culture where everyone shares responsibility for ensuring optimal levels of fire safety.
Tips:
What are appropriate methods for extinguishing fires?
(1) Asphyxiation method: Prevent airflow into combustion zones or dilute air using non-combustible substances so that insufficient oxygen halts combustion.
(2) Chemical suppression method: Introduce chemical extinguishing agents directly into burning areas causing participation within combustion reactions thereby ceasing it.
(3) Isolation method: Isolate burning materials/objects from surrounding combustibles leading cessation due lack thereof.
(4) Cooling method: Directly apply extinguishing agents onto combustible materials reducing temperatures or spray nearby combustibles preventing ignition via radiant heat influence.
