Overview
The Accounting major at BTBU has a long and distinguished history, with its predecessor being the Financial Accounting program at the former Beijing Business School. Admissions resumed in 1979, and the program was granted the authority to award master’s degrees in 1984, followed by joint doctoral training authority in 2004. It is also one of the earliest financial institutions in China to enroll students in the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) specialization. Currently, the discipline is a Beijing Key Development Discipline, a Beijing Municipal Specialized Major, and a National-Level Specialized Major. The program has 25 faculty members, including 7 professors and 13 associate professors. Fourteen faculty members hold doctoral degrees from prestigious universities such as the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Peking University, and Renmin University of China. Twenty faculty members have overseas study or advanced training experience. In 2007, the “Accounting Course Faculty” was recognized as an “Excellent Teaching Team in Beijing,” and the CPA Specialization Teaching in full English was approved by the Ministry of Education as a “National Talent Cultivation Model Innovation Experimental Zone Project.” In 2009, the achievements of this experimental zone won the second prize in Beijing’s educational and teaching achievements, and in 2013, the program won the first prize in Beijing’s educational and teaching achievements.
Educational Objectives
The Accounting major aims to cultivate accounting professionals who meet the needs of the capital's economic development and national economic and social progress. The program provides education in the following areas:
1. Familiarity with socialist market economy and management theories.
2. Understanding of national laws, regulations, and financial policies.
3. Proficiency in both general and specialized English, mastery of basic accounting theories and skills.
4. Development of integrity, knowledge, and practical skills, fostering innovation and practical abilities.
Program Characteristics
The Accounting major is divided into two tracks: Accounting and CPA specialization. The CPA track offers two experimental classes: one in Chinese and the other in full English.
The Full English Experimental Class is composed of students selected based on their high scores in English from the national college entrance examination. The curriculum uses original textbooks imported from abroad, and all courses are taught in English. Each year, several students are selected by the Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CICPA) to work in large international accounting firms, engaging in CPA audits, corporate accounting, and other related tasks.
The program maintains close academic exchanges and cooperation with foreign universities, allowing students to participate in international exchange programs such as “2+2,” “3+1,” or “3+1+1.” In 2015, students from this program were selected to participate in Beijing’s “Foreign Training” program, sponsored by the Beijing municipal government, to complete the “2+2” exchange program at prestigious foreign universities.
