Logistics Management

Overview

The undergraduate program in Logistics Management at BTBU originated from the Storage and Transportation Management program established in 1981 and was renamed Logistics Management in 1993. It is one of the earliest undergraduate programs in logistics management in China. Over the past 40 years, the program has continually evolved and innovated, achieving notable results and high social recognition in talent cultivation, academic research, social service, and international exchange. It has produced numerous high-quality logistics management professionals, including renowned entrepreneurs, government officials, and university professors, as well as a team of distinguished logistics experts. In 2007, the program was recognized as a National Featured Program; in 2008, it was awarded the Beijing Featured Program designation; and the same year, the teaching team received the title of “National Teaching Team.” In 2019, it was selected as one of the first national-level first-class undergraduate programs under the National “Double Ten Thousand Plan.”

Educational Objectives

The program is designed to cater to the needs of the new era of socialist construction with Chinese characteristics, aiming to cultivate high-level professionals with a solid foundation in economics, management, systems science, and data science. Students will master modern logistics and supply chain management theories, fundamental operations, and methods, and develop a strong international perspective, innovation spirit, and practical skills. Graduates will be equipped with logistics system analysis and operational capabilities, excelling in fields such as digital logistics, green logistics, and international logistics, and prepared for roles in logistics system planning, design, operation, and management across government agencies, enterprises, and industry organizations.

1. In line with the modern educational and teaching philosophy of higher education, the program has developed a comprehensive curriculum system, integrating theoretical and practical teaching, and quality assurance systems to ensure the holistic development of students.

2. Faculty members of the program are among the top in BTBU in terms of research strength and they attach great importance to the combination of research and teaching. Their research achievements are integrated into teaching content to maintain the forefront of course material.

3. The program embraces modern technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data, focusing on digital economy needs and cultivating graduates adept in these new fields.

4. Leveraging Beijing’s advantages as the capital and BTBU’s business and light industry foundations, the program integrates modern management science and logistics technology to nurture professionals with a broad international perspective and interdisciplinary skills.

The program boasts a competitive faculty team, including members such as the Vice Chair of the Ministry of Education’s Logistics Teaching Advisory Committee, Chair of the ISO/TC344, experts receiving special government allowances from the State Council, Beijing Great Wall Scholars, Outstanding Young Talents from the Beijing Organization Department, and Beijing Outstanding Young Talent in Higher Education. The team consists of 24 full-time faculty members, including 9 professors, 9 associate professors, 1 senior engineer, 23 doctoral degree holders, 8 doctoral supervisors, and 22 master’s supervisors. Over the past five years, the faculty has received more than ten provincial and ministerial-level teaching and research awards, led 12 national research projects, and published over 130 papers. The School is also involved in the China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing as a vice-chair unit and is the founding and hosting entity for National Contest on Logistics Design by University Students and Beijing Contest on Logistics Design by University Students.

Logistics System Study, Logistics System Simulation, International Logistics Management, Port Planning and Management, Air Logistics Planning and Design, Advanced Python Programming, Logistics Information System, Smart Logistics Management, Green Logistics, Supply Chain Management (in full English), Logistics Big Data Analysis, etc. The courses of the program include 1 National Excellent Course and Co-Sharing Construction Course, 1 Beijing Excellent Course, 2 online MOOC courses, and several course textbooks that have won provincial and ministerial first and second prizes.

Practical Teaching

The program employs a “Practice + Innovation” talent cultivation model.

1. The program promotes the internship and employment of students through scenario-based practice. Multiple teaching practice bases have been established with industry associations such as the China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing and companies like Sinotrans, JD Logistics, and Jointown, providing rich internship and employment opportunities for students.

2. The program enhances students’ ability of knowledge application through project-based practice. By research enlightenment and other practical teaching sectors, students can collaborate with mentors on research projects to solve technical problems faced by enterprises, thereby enhancing their professional skills.

3. The program helps students improve their comprehensive practical competence by encouraging them into some competitions. The program promotes participation in national and Beijing logistics-related competitions, with over 40 teams winning awards in these events.

Graduates’ Employment and Further Study

China's logistics industry has entered a new phase of digital and green transformation, characterized by the development of new quality productive forces and the pursuit of cost reduction, efficiency enhancement, and quality improvement. This new phase has created a significant demand for talent development at BTBU. Graduates have found positions in leading companies such as Huawei, Haier, BOE Technology Group, BAIC Group, Sinotrans, China Logistics Group, China Merchants Group, JD.com, SF Express, Alibaba, DHL, FedEx, Walmart, Accenture, PwC, and various banks and industry associations. Some graduates have joined government departments such as customs, railways, and aviation, while others have become leaders in logistics and related fields or prominent professors at domestic and international universities. Many students pursue further studies at renowned institutions such as Renmin University of China, Beijing Institute of Technology, and South China University of Technology, with some going abroad for advanced education.
