Overview
BTBU initiated the development of the Financial Management major as early as 1979. With approval from the Ministry of Education, the university began admitting undergraduates in Financing in 1994. The program was renamed Financial Management in 1998 and was designated as a National Specialized Major Development Program in 2009. Over the past 30 years, the program has achieved remarkable scientific research and educational results, becoming a key base for cultivating financial management talents in Beijing and across China. The program currently has 17 faculty members, including 7 professors and 7 associate professors; 13 faculty members hold doctoral degrees from prestigious universities such as the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University, and Nankai University; 10 faculty members have experience in overseas study or advanced training.
Educational Objectives
The Financial Management program aims to cultivate well-rounded professionals who develop morally, intellectually, physically, and aesthetically, meeting the needs of economic development and social progress. Graduates will possess a solid foundation in socialist market economy and management theories, be familiar with national financial policies and regulations, and systematically master the basic theories, methods, and skills of financial management. The program focuses on developing individuals with both integrity and ability, who are knowledgeable and capable of integrating theory with practice. Graduates will be equipped with comprehensive management, decision-making, and innovation skills, enabling them to work in financial management and related fields in various organizations.
Program Characteristics
This program is a National Specialized Major. Through their studies, students will systematically master the basic knowledge, theories, methods, and skills of financial management. They will develop the essential qualities and abilities needed for comprehensive management, decision-making, and creative problem-solving, allowing them to work in various capacities within financial management departments.
In 2012, the program received the First Prize of the Educational and Teaching Achievement Award of BTBU, and in 2013, it was awarded the First Prize of the Beijing Educational and Teaching Achievement Award.
Core Courses
The core courses include Corporate Finance I (Bilingual), Corporate Finance II (Bilingual), Managerial Accounting, Financial Statement Analysis, Financial Management for Business Groups, Management Information Systems, International Financial Management, Mergers and Acquisitions, and Venture Capital. The textbooks used in the program include two National Excellent Textbooks, one Beijing Excellent Textbook, and seven textbooks that are included in the “11th Five-Year Plan” of educational material development.
Practical Teaching
Practical teaching for the Financial Management program primarily takes place at BTBU’s Humanities Practice Center, which has been recognized as a “National and Beijing Economic Management Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center.” The practical courses and teaching components include various course-based lab exercises, social practice, professional internships, graduation internships, and thesis writing.
The program has also signed agreements to establish practice bases or formed cooperation intentions with more than 10 large state-owned enterprises, financial institutions, and internationally renowned accounting firms. These organizations serve as internship bases for undergraduate students, and their executives also act as part-time mentors for practical training.
In recent years, students from this program have achieved outstanding results in various student competitions. These achievements include: First and second prizes in the North China Regional Finals of the 4th (Haier Cup) Management Accounting Campus Case Competition organized by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), first and second prizes in the North China Regional Finals of the 3rd (Haier Cup) Management Accounting Campus Case Competition organized by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), second prize in the North China Regional Finals of the 2nd Management Accounting Campus Case Competition organized by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), national third place, second prize, and Beijing first prize in the National Enterprise Competition Simulation Contest and the Yonyo Entrepreneurship Business Simulation Competition for University Students.
Graduates’ Career Prospects
The career prospects for graduates of this program are promising, and employers widely recognize the quality of the graduates. In recent years, employment opportunities have been primarily concentrated in Beijing and economically developed coastal areas. After graduation, students can engage in financial management work in industrial and commercial enterprises or financial institutions, or take on related management roles in government departments and public institutions.
