The Tourism Management program at the BTBU Business School was initially established in 1987. It was granted the authority to confer bachelor’s degrees in 1996, began admitting academic master’s students in Tourism Management in 2005, and in 2010, was among the first in China to receive approval for the Master of Tourism Administration (MTA) degree, which was reaffirmed in 2021. In 2022, the program began admitting doctoral candidates specializing in “Digital Tourism.” Since 1988, the program has produced over 800 graduates across various levels, who have gone on to work in domestic government agencies, higher education institutions, international and domestic tourism groups, and various commercial enterprises. These graduates are known for their solid foundation and strong professional skills, earning high praise from society.
The Tourism Management program currently has 12 full-time faculty members, including 3 professors, 8 associate professors, and 1 postdoctoral fellow. Among them, there are 4 doctoral supervisors and 11 master's supervisors. Additionally, 2 renowned international scholars have been appointed as distinguished professors. Since 2016, faculty members within the program have undertaken over 80 research projects, including 6 national-level projects, with cumulative research funding exceeding 10 million RMB. Faculty members have published more than 40 papers in C-class and above authoritative domestic and international journals, demonstrating strong research capabilities and significant achievements.
The Tourism Management program is dedicated to cultivating high-level digital business professionals who possess comprehensive knowledge of tourism management, computer technology, big Earth data technology, and new media technology. It was among the first in the field to explore a talent cultivation model focused on “Smart Tourism,” promoting an interdisciplinary and integrative approach to education. This distinctive approach aligns with national policies advocating for the integrated development of culture and tourism, ecological civilization construction, and the sustainable development of the economy and society. The program has a solid foundation and a strategic advantage in its educational philosophy and is committed to the long-term development of the “Smart Tourism” talent cultivation model.
