Overview
BTBU has a long history in accounting education, with its predecessor being the Financial Accounting program of the former Beijing Business School. Enrollment was resumed in 1979, and the program obtained the rights to offer master’s degrees in 1983 and doctoral joint training rights in 2004. It is also one of the earliest institutions in China to offer a specialization in Certified Public Accountants. In 2008, the program was recognized as a national-level distinctive major, and in 2012, it was named a key discipline in Beijing. In 2018, it was classified as a top program in Beijing. The program duration is 3 years, with a maximum allowed study period of 5 years.
Educational Objectives
The program aims to cultivate intermediate and advanced accounting professionals who are capable of independently engaging in financial accounting theory and practice. Students are expected to be familiar with basic theories of economics and management, understand significant and cutting-edge research in financial accounting, be knowledgeable about financial policies and regulations, and master a foreign language. The program enhances students’ theoretical understanding of financial accounting, develops their professional judgment and problem-solving abilities, and ensures they are well-acquainted with both Chinese conditions and international perspectives. Students will also be trained in accounting and auditing software and will develop strong psychological resilience, innovative qualities, and a spirit of teamwork.
Research Directions
1. Accounting and Investor Protection
This direction involves studying the mechanisms, paths, methods, and consequences of investor protection from an accounting perspective, including areas such as accounting standards and investor protection, the quality of accounting information and investor protection, internal control and investor protection, and the construction of investor protection indices based on accounting.
2.Auditing and Risk Control
This direction focuses on examining the mechanisms, methods, consequences, and measures of internal auditing and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) auditing in corporate risk control, as well as the role and improvement strategies of national auditing in government compliance, performance, and environmental risk. Topics include internal auditing and comprehensive risk control, CPA auditing and audit risk control, national auditing and national governance, and national auditing and government performance.
Faculty Team
The program currently has 29 faculty members, including 9 professors, 8 associate professors, and 12 lecturers. Among them, 22 hold doctoral degrees from prestigious universities such as the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Peking University, and Renmin University of China. Additionally, 20 faculty members have experience studying or working abroad. In 2007, the “Accounting Course Faculty” was recognized as an “Excellent Teaching Team in Beijing,” and the CPA Specialization Teaching in full English was approved by the Ministry of Education as a “National Talent Cultivation Model Innovation Experimental Zone Project.” In 2009, the achievements of this experimental zone won the second prize in Beijing’s educational and teaching achievements, and in 2013, the program won the first prize in Beijing’s educational and teaching achievements. The program also includes two deputy directors and members of the Ministry of Education Business Administration Teaching Guidance Committee, three Beijing Great Wall Scholars, three Accounting Masters recognized by the Ministry of Finance, and nine Accounting Leading Talents certified by the Ministry of Finance.
Graduates’ Career Prospects
The program boasts the highest employment rate at BTBU, with graduates widely distributed across major industries in both domestic and international companies. Graduates pursue doctoral degrees at institutions such as Peking University, Renmin University of China, Central University of Finance and Economics, and University of International Business and Economics. Employment destinations include State Council agencies, Beijing municipal party and government offices, research institutes, large central state-owned enterprises, commercial banks, hospitals, and well-known accounting firms in China and abroad. Some graduates continue their doctoral studies or pursue further education overseas.
