Overview
The Business Management program began admitting its first cohort of master’s students in 1980 and was officially recognized as an independent master’s program in 1989. In 1998, it was designated as a key discipline by the former National Ministry of Internal Trade, and in 2007, it was recognized as a key construction discipline in Beijing. In 2021, the program was approved as a doctoral program in the field of “Business Administration.” After more than forty years of development, Business Management has become one of the flagship programs at our university. The program has competitive faculty and substantial research output in areas such as commercial enterprise management, marketing management, and strategic management. The program duration is 3 years, with a maximum allowed study period of 5 years.
Educational Objectives
The program aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of fundamental theories and specialized knowledge in management and economics, and to familiarize students with modern market economics and industrial development. Students will develop the ability to apply modern management theories, methods, and tools to analyze and solve business management problems. Proficiency in a foreign language is required, including strong skills in reading and utilizing professional literature. Students should also possess good physical health and psychological resilience.
Research Directions
1. Retail Management
This direction explores the management issues of retail enterprises in changing environments and the management issues within the retail segment of the goods distribution channel system. Key research topics include: retail management theories and methods, retail enterprise strategies and organization, innovation in retail business models, online retailing, private label brands, chain operations, wholesale management, and internationalization of retail enterprises.
2. Marketing Management
This direction investigates market marketing issues for service enterprises and other service activities conducted to facilitate product exchange. Main research topics include: marketing strategy and organization, buyer behavior, service marketing mix, service quality, online marketing, brand communication, channel management, international market entry strategies, and corporate social responsibility in service enterprises.
3. Strategic and Innovation Management
This direction focuses on issues related to business model innovation, strategic and organizational innovation, digital economy and management innovation, service marketing innovation, service technology innovation, service process innovation, service culture innovation, service knowledge innovation, and innovation policies.
4. Human Resource Management
This direction examines human resource management issues in service enterprises. Key research topics include: strategic human resource management, corporate performance management, service culture, employee training, and job analysis.
Faculty Team
The teaching team for this program has been recognized as an “Advanced Collective in the National Education System.” The Business Management program currently has 40 master’s supervisors, including 10 professors, 24 associate professors, and 6 lecturers; 38 of the faculty members hold doctoral degrees. In recent years, faculty members in this discipline have received six awards for Outstanding Achievements in Philosophy and Social Sciences and Excellence in Educational and Teaching Achievements in Beijing.

Graduates of this program often pursue careers in public institutions, government departments, various enterprises, and management consulting service organizations. Recent employment destinations include: China Metallurgical Group Corporation, CITIC Group, China Minmetals Corporation, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Beijing Branch, Beijing Xicheng District Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, Guangzhou Chamber of Commerce, Coca-Cola, China Telecom, China Merchants Bank, Walmart, Lenovo Group, Midea Group, and Foton Motor. Graduates have also pursued doctoral studies at institutions such as Renmin University of China, University of International Business and Economics, Nankai University, Beijing Jiaotong University, and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications.
